I know of cases where JWs and other people have been forced to give their children insulin, blood transfusions etc. Those cases were "life saving" which I guess is the crux.

I am much more worried about things like learning and behavior
problems, which they will try to solve their own way and will lower
Josie's quality of life.

The Duggars are really doing that child a disservice by not taking advantage of all Early Intervention has to offer her.

I have a friend, too, whose son was under a pound. He's 22 now and fine and had no intervention because there wasn't much available then--every child is different. I don't want to sound rude--I just don't want the "John David may be autistic" kind of speculation to get going--there's so much we can snark about that's true after all! This is true, there is definitely enough verifiable fodder about them to go around. I did assume about her not getting services, because I think it would come up on the show, and I think if she is on a tour with them, itwould be hard to get what she needed, if she were getting it from the state. My daughter got speech therapy for a developmental delay in TN, so I am a bit familiar with EI, at least in our state. I dont think AR is that different, but I don't really know. I dont' wish ill on the child at all, mostly I just hope she is getting all that is available to her, and I think her parents are wingnuts.

I don't think she should be on the book tour.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have a "no discipline on tape" policy...
maybe even written into their contracts. While we don't know that they
use the training guide and PVC pipes for discipline, I'd be really
surprised if they don't use some sort of physical punishment. Based on
what we know about the QF movement in general, they'd be pretty far
outside the lines if they didn't "train" the kids "appropriately".

No, they probably do not do the intense training around camera crew, but the spanking debate is alive and well in this country and, to my knowledge, spanking is still not against the law. So while I'm sure they're not being beaten in front of TLC's crew, I'm not convinced the situation is as black and white as for them to not be physically disciplining the kids. I have never met children with such "good" manners who were not spanked. Doesn't mean they don't exist or that I think spanking is the best option... just an observation based on my limited experience.
On another note, I found this video that was posted in April... Josie was still using oxygen whenever it was recorded...

We don't spank and there are a number of fundie/QF families who are outspoken against spanking.
