This line especially: "I had not yet learned well enough to sit back and listen to my heavenly Father lead through my earthly father." I'm new here, but for background, I was raised quiverfull/Christian Patriarchy, fundie, homeschool, all of it. I heard this exact line - God speaks to you through your father. BULLSHIT! How the hell is that even "Biblical"? It's not! I got out when I was twenty, and I've never been more glad of anything in my life. It's also very interesting to read that she didn't want to work at the ALERT academy, but she prayed and god told her too. Translation, she was talking to herself about it, and herself somehow told herself to do it even though she didn't want to. This is psychologically fascinating, really. But anyway, I'm sure that fact that her parents were pressuring her to go had NOTHING to do about it! Jeez! Also, one of my brothers almost went to the ALERT academy but changed his mind at the last minute, something I am very glad of. Oh, and this: "Before too long, I was in love and wondering how the Lord brought such a man into a life that was so undeserving." Because yes, women are so unworthy and undeserving and worthless. It's hard to believe men actually marry them!

A father having that much control over your life -- to the point where he comes between God and your conscience -- just does not seem biblical to me.

My husband is a smart, sensible person, but he's just stumbling through life like everyone else, trying to do the right thing and make wise choices--but making mistakes along the way, as we all do. Maybe he just doesn't have a super-special pipeline to Fundie God...

It's the same with wives - obeying your husband is obeying god. Some even hold that a wife is to obey her husband even if he commands her to sin.

I understand that the Bible teaches that people should honor their parents, and I agree that children should be obedient to their parents, but how can/do they justify unquestioning obedience into adulthood? As a child, Jesus obeyed Mary and Joseph (such as in Luke 2:39-51), but in Mark 3:31-34, he did not immediately rush to see his family when they were looking for him. Had he been a Gothardite, he would still have been under his parents' "authority" and would have had to obey them.

It is so self-serving to the patriarchal Powers that Be, and so demeaning and limiting to those who are to Trust and Obey. Of course, the fundies would have us believe that it's about trusting and obeying God. And that may be partially true. But that's not how I see it used most of the time in these narratives.

It's also kind of sad that she claims that part of her duty as a woman is to have her 3 siblings as her best friends (assuming those are the 3 children she is pictured with on her website). Not that there's anything wrong with being friends with your siblings, but those kids are really young. I would not want to be 27 and best friends with my 4-year-old brother.
