We saw this video posted by Stuff Christian Culture Likes on facebook, and we were appalled. This kind of direction leads to women suffering when they don't have to, in my opinion. What a jerk! I hate how he thinks a woman should placate her husband, and "endure" whatever he dishes out.

It is so frustrating to see people who aren't fundie like Vision Forum, etc., herald Piper and his crew as such wondrous speakers. In a strange twist of events, I'm actually sitting in a room with several Piper-worshipers...who are otherwise normal, evangelical Christians. Check out the Council for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood for more of teh crazies. Piper has several supposedly moderate articles there, including the text of his speech advocating for women to stay in abusive situations. I think I ought to start a thread with a compilation of CBMW articles...lots of fundie craziness, but much more mainstream/stylish/scary. It's a gold mine we haven't touched yet.

How anyone could say that a "ministry" should be counseling women or anyone to stay with an abuser is beyond me. Again, if there's a he#@, I hope that John Piper is in that special corner, along with VF & the other patriocentric dominionists. BTW, Piper took a leave of absence for much of this past year (http://www.desiringgodDOT...n-his-leave-of-absence). When he announced the leave (http://www.desiringgodDOT...-pipers-upcoming-leave), he indicated it would be for personal reasons, especially for focusing on his marriage. Reading between the lines, I wonder if his wife issued an ultimatum of some kind. Could it be that the guy who is oh-so-humble in his pleas for support from the sheeple (http://www.desiringgodDOT...t-the-start-of-my-leave) is a jerk, or worse, at home?

I follow Family Life and its sister ministry Revive our Hearts, and they basically worship John Piper. He has spoken at the True Womanhood conference, and his sermons on how to be a true woman would be great fodder to dissect/rip to shreds. These groups are considered very mainstream, and it's scary to see the sneaking in of extremist thought. I gave up reading the CBMW website because I found it too depressing. So many churches believe that stuff! In a side note, a few years ago John Piper AND Voddie Baucham came to speak at my Christian college (which was conservative, but not THAT conservative), and everyone loved both of them! In my senior presentation I made sure to mention Voddie Baucham's Tenets of Biblical Patriarchy.

And then she threw up strawmen about how most women who claim verbal abuse are lying and their loving husbands just had a bad day and snapped at them. He also made some obnoxious statements about God's anger in sending a tornado upon Minneapolis the same day in 2008 the evangelical Lutherans (meeting in MPLS) voted to allow gays and lesbians to minister more openly in their organization. No matter how you feel on the gay rights issue, it really is inappropriate to try and take a weather event and make it into God's Wrath O Beware, Beware. Although I am absolutely NOT encouraging this behavior (it's assault, you could end up in jail), it would warm the cold little cockles of my heart if some woman who stayed with her abuser finally snapped and smacked John Piper but good. Again, it's assault, but I do entertain the fantasy of these guys getting what they tell us women what we should hang around for--abuse from an abuser. No Way.

So they, too, can "suffer like Christ." And then they will know what a hell they're condeming other people to. (I don't advocate abuse, I really don't. But the people who spew this garbage have clearly never felt the impact of it. Apparently hearing stories and seeing bruises and the rest isn't enough for them. Makes me sick)

One of the worst posts Kelly @ GC wrote was about how women are always yelling abuse but basically they feel abused when they aren't. As if women who were being emotionally or physically beaten by their husbands were upset about doing the laundry! This kills me.
