I think it's a creative idea ~ grading the Duggar family on how closely they're doing on Gothard's Character Qualities. LOL If anyone here is still posting at TWOP ~ would you like to share a link to Hopewell's article there? Just a suggestion ~ I think it'd be interesting to see the reactions. As for the grades being too charitable -- I understand what people are saying. I reacted that way to some of them, as well. But, Hopewell was following the Gothard definitions, as strange as some of them are. And, it looked to me like she was being strict with herself about actual behavior and results, not assumed motives, or suspicions about what might go on behind the scenes. And, she was grading them as a whole. I think the only way around some of that would be to break them up into "study groups." Sometimes I did find myself thinking "the older girls get an A+ on this, and the parents get a D," especially for a lot of things involving responsibility and sensitivity.

No--I've just spent hours in Juvenile Court lately and learned a few lessons in trying to be fair--to see good etc. But, Hopewell was following the Gothard definitions, as strange as some of them are. Yes--some were VERY odd and I tried to point that out! And, she was grading them as a whole. I think the only way around some of that would be to break them up into "study groups." Sometimes I did find myself thinking "the older girls get an A+ on this, and the parents get a D," especially for a lot of things involving responsibility and sensitivity. I often thought I'd like to grade the kids in age groups, but decided the Duggars stress the WHOLE family, so that's how I tried to grade them, pointing out individual success/failures as necessary. Certainly the big girls helped improve the grades!!! Given Gothard's weird take on some of the definitions, it was not fun to grade by them!!!
